Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders: Applications Now Open for the 2026 Youth and Junior Parliaments
Youth Leadership Parliament is Ghana's biggest Model Parliament initiative that provides a unique platform for aspiring young leaders to gain practical exposure and training in democratic governance, political participation, and economic empowerment.
The search for tomorrow’s leaders begins today. In a continued effort to amplify young voices and foster active civic engagement, organizers have officially announced that the call for applications for the 2026 Youth Parliament and Junior Parliament is now open.
This flagship initiative offers a rare, immersive opportunity for passionate young individuals to step into the shoes of lawmakers, debate pressing national issues, and develop actionable solutions that reflect the priorities of their generation.
Whether you are a seasoned student debater, an emerging community advocate, or simply a young person who wants to see change in your community, the parliament programs are designed to turn raw passion into refined leadership.
Two Tiers of Leadership
To ensure that youth of all ages have a tailored and impactful experience, the program is divided into two distinct chambers:
The Junior Parliament (Ages 11–15) Designed for early adolescents, the Junior Parliament serves as an introduction to civic duty and democratic processes. Participants will learn the fundamentals of public speaking, teamwork, and parliamentary procedures. It is a safe, encouraging environment where younger students can build their confidence, learn how to articulate their ideas, and understand the basic mechanisms of how communities are governed.
The Youth Parliament 2026 (Ages 16–24) Aimed at older teenagers and young adults, the Youth Parliament mirrors the intensity and complexity of a real legislative body. Delegates will tackle complex socio-economic, environmental, and technological challenges. They will draft bills, negotiate with peers from diverse backgrounds, and engage directly with policymakers and community leaders. This tier is a powerful incubator for future politicians, social entrepreneurs, and civic leaders.

Real-World Skills: Delegates receive rigorous training in public speaking, critical thinking, diplomacy, and policy drafting.

A Call to Action
"The challenges we face today—from climate change to economic inequality—will ultimately be inherited by the youth," said the Program Coordinator for the Parliamentary Initiative. "We cannot afford to wait until they are adults to ask for their input. The Youth and Junior Parliaments are about giving them a seat at the table now."
Past alumni of the program have gone on to spearhead community non-profits, gain admission to top-tier universities, and even step into local political roles.
How to Apply
The selection committee is looking for diversity in thought, background, and experience. You do not need to be a top-of-the-class political science student to apply; you only need a genuine desire to learn and make a difference.
Application Requirements:
A completed online application form.
A brief personal essay or a short 2-minute video explaining why you want to join and what issue you are most passionate about.
One letter of recommendation from a teacher, community leader, or mentor.
Deadline: Applications will close at midnight on Friday, October 30th. Late submissions will not be considered.
